DSA, We Have a Waste Problem!: Environmental Racism & Incineration

Ecosocialists know that greenwashing is a deceptive form of marketing commonly used by corporations world-wide to convince the public that their practices are climate friendly and not environmentally harmful.  Waste-to-energy has been promoted by the companies that profit, as the answer to increased demand for landfill space and as a better alternative to landfills which are known to emit greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change.  But when you look closely you will find that trash incineration provides comparatively little power, releases more carbon to the atmosphere than landfills, and exposes the largely poor communities in which incinerators are located with heavy metals and particulates.  However, that has not stopped corporate interests from convincing regulators in some areas to label waste-to-energy as “renewable”, with all the perks and incentives that go along.

Please join us on June 22 at 8:00 pm Eastern as we debunk the greenwashing, explore the science behind trash incineration, hear from communities that are on the frontlines of this environmental justice issue and discuss Socialist solutions. You can register for the event here:
